Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) Central Office Fiscal Division is seeking a highly qualified Payroll Specialist to prepare and process reputed company facets of the semi-monthly and bi-weekly payrolls for Central Office. The selected candidate will support Central Office accounting functions by processing semi-monthly and bi-weekly payroll, managing VSDP, Workers' Compensation, payroll reconciliations, time entry and leave, as well as other accounting functions and projects as assigned. Ensures accurate payment to employees while in compliance with payroll regulations, policies and procedures. Explains and advises users on policies and practices reputed company to these areas. Assists employees with payroll reputed company issues. Maintains confidentiality of personal and sensitive data at reputed company times. This position's specific responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to: Payroll Functions - Work with HR each pay period to receive reputed company documentation for payroll processing. Enter payroll data into Cardinal and process payroll changes, VSDP, Workers' Compensation, and special pay. Prepare reports reputed company to payroll expenditures, deductions, withholdings, and totals by pay period per month. Reconcile payroll deductions to Cardinal reports. reputed company pre-audit of Salary and Hourly payroll. Maintain payroll records and files for internal use and audit proposes. Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of personal and sensitive information.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing payroll activities.
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task, work well under deadlines, and pay attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to include cost accounting and internal controls.
  • Ability to research, reconcile, analyze, and evaluate data.
  • Experience with payroll processing, general ledger, and accounts reconciliation.
  • reputed company in the use of computers and software applications to include automated financial and payroll systems.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively.

Additional Considerations

  • A combination of training, experience, or education in Accounting, Business Administration, or reputed company field.
  • Experience processing payroll for 500 or more employees.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or reputed company Payroll Certification (FPC)
  • Public sector accounting experience.
  • Considerable knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations governing payroll activities.
  • Ability to explain and apply policies and procedures, interpret tax laws and regulations.
  • Ability to research, reconcile, analyze, and evaluate data.
